Ohhhh Ruuuuuuby....

Ruby-from Debbie Bliss Cashmerino collection. I want to knit this pattern. It says advanced. I consider myself a solid intermediate knitter. What the heck, i'm going to stretch myself a bit. I'm just not quite sure yet what yarn? I have a $200 gift certificate to my favorite LYS, but you know me, I HATE paying full price for almost anything. If...i did decide to start this in February....i'm wondering what yarn would be a good sub for the Cashmerino Aran...I need about 2800 yds....i know Elann.com's new Seta Lana is a chunky but i'm betting it would knit to gauge for me on 8s or 7s....the Juniper color is gorgeous....and the Superwash HW CHunky knits wonderfully too....or even the Uros Aran in the lovely Jacaranda color...decisions, decisions.....I think I'll check Ravelry and see if anyone else is doing this or wants to do a knit-a-long...which helps motivate me when the going gets tedious...

Knit amongst yourselves whilst I ponder this...

Nice idea - love the cable work. Yarn substitution? Hmmm - can't help there I'm afraid. Okay - I must go & work on my sweater some more - you've reminded me I can get that done! Happy knitting!

That sweater is GOR-geous! 2800 yds? Oh my gosh. You'll do it justice though. :)

I have no yarn substitution ideas - at least not for something along the lines of cashmerino. Ravelry will reveal all, I am sure. :)

wow that is gorgeous...
I couldn't find it on Ravelry, but I googled it and couldn't believe how many great patterns are in that collection! I would LOVE to knit Ruby, Lily and Romy. For starters.

Divine jacket! Just as well you live in the Arctic - it wouldn't work at all here in sunny Perth! (no I can't winter-sit your grumpy cat, altho I can see why she'd be cheesed at the antics of those dogs out in the snow)

I KNOW you will be sashaying about in that jacket any month now.

Intermediate knitter my ass!

BTW - any news on the hair front?

Oooohhh Lisa! You have to do it. Cables are *not* as difficult as you might think.

If you want to PM me your address via Ravelry (I'm Peppercat) I can send you some cable needles that will help a lot too - I used to work for the company & still have a small handfull of the "defectives" that are perfectly functional

Oh I love that sweater. It's so beautiful. I'll add my voice to the other comments saying "just do it." The best way to become an advanced knitter (indeed is there any other way?) is simply to start knitting "advanced" projects. ta-da.

voHere's the thing-

Read the directions. I consider myself an intermediate knitter. I think things are only marked expert when someone couldn't pull their head out long enough to write succinct directions. That's the difference between an intermediate knit and an expert one. I think you can do it. Bliss tends to be a little convoluted in her directions, but the details are great.

I love the way the rib gazinta cables (haha) but what's with that goofy line? Can you engineer around it?

Lovely!! You are more than skilled enough to make this, and you've got great ideas for substitute yarns. Go, girlfriend!!

I've just started this, I've been dreaming of it for a long time. I am desperately trying to find anyone else who is knitting it, have you come across anyone yet?

I would love to see "real" finished one.
